Tribal Survivor

In the manner of "Raiders of the Lost Ark", Delegates are drawn into the world of archaeological adventure in this creative and bonding teambuilding event.

The scenario is based on the premise that clues to uncovering an ancient civilization, once thought lost, have been discovered. Equipped with a guide, delegates work as teams of archaeologists in a race to learn the mystical ways of the Wehdehellawi (pronounced weh-de-hell-ar-wi)Tribe. Their task is to overcome the various challenges that are part of the mission to find the elusive "Path To Enlightenment".
It is NOT based on the negative aspects of the popular TV show “Survivor” as we would never focus corporate groups on lying, deceit or even voting people off a team.

This creative teambuilding event is about adventure and imagination. The focus is on effective teamwork, innovation, creativity, problem solving, trust, communication, freedom of expression and hooligan colourful fun. Though the nature of the event suggests dangerous adventure in an exotic jungle, it can work effectively indoors or outdoors.
There are up to Eight challenges in total. It's not about taxing the brawn but exercising the brain. Each challenge is designed to promote specific aspects of effective interaction and team building.

Results are achieved through action, delegation voluntary risk taking and participation. The Tribal Survivor is a fun, energetic team-build event, a shared group experience that builds bonds and relationships. Colleagues experience each other in a new light outside of the work structure in the process of developing company memories.

The history, rituals, culture and beliefs of the Wehdehellawi Tribe are bizarre and exciting. Retracing the steps of the tribe, teams forge their own tribes and identities, a collective expression of each member in the group through a powerful common bond. Facilitators guide the teams through their adventure, keeping scores and judging progress. Delegates are grouped, team leaders are appointed and each receives a written guide with the dues and information they need to help them on their journey. Before the first challenge is met, each team must define themselves with a name.

Challenge One - Easing The Anger Of Baab'alazi
According to the ancient script, the first step to unravelling the mystery behind the Wehdehellawi is to acknowledge the great Baab'alazi- Wehdehellawi god of hangovers. The Wehdehellawi, being partial to Bongo-Bongo juice, would often feel the impact of his wrath the next morning. They believed that the only way to drive Baab'alazi' rage from their heads was to appease him by building a statue of the god. Teams are provided with a block of clay and a variety of materials from which they must construct their interpretation of Baab'alazi.
Delegates get back to basics by rolling up their sleeves to produce a tangible representation of the groups ideas. The concept behind this challenge is to get teams working together, creatively. At this initial stage in the event, delegates are relaxing, having fun and sharing ideas before they even realised it. The monuments are presented to the entire group by each team. The presentation must include a full explanation and story around the significance of the monument to the tribe by one or more of its members.
Points are awarded for best ideas, initiative, incorporation of other elements into the structure, execution as well as imaginative and lively explanation. This challenge promotes openness to creativity, exploring concepts as a team with complete equality of team members.
Challenge Two - Cracking The Ancient Code
This is a timed challenge - teams score points according to speed with which they crack the code:
Cryptic clues, visual puzzle made up of various pieces as well as a word challenge. All tribes must pass this test before moving on. This lateral thinking challenge involves group problem solving, understanding the thought processes of others and reliance on team input to find the answers.

Challenge Three - Food Gathering The Wehdehellawi Way
According to the ancient script the Wehdehellawi were a superstitious tribe and believed that to touch food with any part of the body except the head, mouth or neck would evoke tragedy. In order to survive, teams must gather supplies in the manner of the Wehdehellawi. Time is always of the essence in the race against the other tribes.
Nominated members from each team are tasked to attempt the food gathering ritual. On their knees, with no arms or hands to assist them, each team must devise a method to gather ten food items, making sure that each member makes contact with the food and then transport it to a place of safety. The staple diet of the Wehdehellawi included pineapples, eggs and cucumbers among other items. Success in this challenge depends on team communication, strategy, working as one to achieve best results and the relaxing of personal barriers.
Challenge Four - Wehdehellawi Warriors
"The brighter and bolder the attire, the better the warrior".
One member is chosen to represent the spirit of the team by becoming the tribal warrior. Equipped with supplied resources (miscellaneous materials, items and war paint) and using initiative to find extras to add, teams create a warrior to be presented to the group by the whole team in the most imaginative, creative and effective way possible. War cries, tribal dance, ritual and storytelling are some of the suggested ways to make a tribal statement. Complete, creative freedom of expression is what this challenge is about. Opening up of individuals and team bonding are among the benefits.

Challenge Five - Un-Frogging-Believable (subject to availability).

The ancient Wehdehellawi tribe lived in reverential awe of the amphibian leapers. Known as the Mud Spirits, each longhouse would select, adopt and nurture one of these little guttural creatures who, it was believed, would take them on their backs through the Caves of Bones to paradise and the afterlife. Each tribe prided themselves in the speed of their spiritual guides, as the faster they were, the less damage they would sustain in their journey through the evil places. Much praise and offerings were given to their chosen green guide, and frequently tribesmen could be seen losing all inhibitions to coax their guides faster and faster. Although it was consider a great sin to touch the little animals in any way, sometimes great patience or creative tempting had to be employed.

Challenge Six - The Feastfast

The season of feasts was a 3 month period where parties, celebrations and revelry were rife each night a different god or spiritual was honoured. Usually after this time the tribe often realised that there had not been a hunt for many moons. The food stuffs were deplenished and virtually everybody had the munchies due to the troughs of native beer and Bongo-Bongo juice consumed. It was necessary that the people must eat from the "Store of Nasties". Sometimes only the bravest would make it. (Please note nothing disgusting is required to be eaten – only fun items in fun ways)

Challenge Seven – The Towers of Sticketti

Tribes need to build a tower out of specified foodstuffs. Usually Spaghetti and chewing gum made the best material for these strange towers. Although many remnants of these impressive towers have been found in the jungles, archaeologists are still not certain what the towers represented. Maybe the teams can work it out?

Challenge Eight - The Path To Enlightenment.

The emphasis of this challenge is on trust.
One tribe member must come forward and blindfolded, navigate the path and all its obstacles, with bravery and the verbal directions of the team as the guide. Cracking this requires effective delegation, communication and colleague support.

Challenge Nine - Retrieving the Sacred Pizjwagunk
The final challenge is the ultimate in scramble and mayhem.
The tribe have stumbled across some ancient junk on their quest to find the sacred Pizjwagunk. It is apparent that these items fit together in a strange and mysterious way to form a craft capable of carrying the team across the vast “Puddle of Death” to land of Wannahockaloogy where they are sure to find the Sacred Pizjwagunk. At last the winning team returns after their quest to the praise and adulation of their kinfolk and neighbouring tribes where they receive their reward. The tribe takes the trophy.
